after burning dvd the burner still spining with very high speed until over heat and burn out

When playing or burning the noise level is ridiculous. And it tries to read discs when the bay is empty which is annoying. It burns well enough connected to my Imac, but I can’t believe the noise levels it produces. I am trying to get in touch with Lacie but so far no response.

Got burner hooked up and running with no problems on my Mac. Everything works well and it is fast. I have not used the disc label writing feature so I can’t rate that but everything else works great. The only complaint I have is the included Toast software. It is basically useless. You can only write two discs up to 30 minutes each and then you have to upgrade. Fortunately, I don’t need it.

Over the years I have been backing up my ‘photos’ and some other data files to DVD data disks on an annual basis. Seems that over the course of several years I’ve burned out the CD/DVD burner on three of my Macs. Needed an external drive to burn CDs and DVDs. This LaCie drive did the trick. I experienced a problem attempting to load the software, which I later determined that I didn’t need, but other than that, it works great.
