Philips Norelco BG2030 Professional BodyGrooming System
Compared to a Wahl trimmer I had been using, I found it to be noisy and not as effective in cutting body hair. The groomer has good reviews… so, obviously it works for others. Just didn’t work for me.

I bought this with the intention of using it strictly as a trimmer, mostly for my chest and pubic region. I started experimenting with the different settings on the combs and found I had great control over the length of the hair. Hmmm… I thought my pit and leg hair would look better a little shorter, so I started experimenting there, too.
Everything worked even better than I expected, except that by the time I was done experimenting, I was a patchwork of different hair lengths all over my body. Again, it wasn’t the razor’s fault; it was my testing that caused the problem. I finally trimmed everything down to the shortest length possible. Everythng was very even, but I didn’t particularly like the look.
Oh, well… I figured if I was going to experiment, I might as well go all the way. So I hopped in the shower and did my first ever full body shave. It was here that the design of the foil head really showed off. The trimmers on the side knocked down any stray hairs I missed, and the foil head cut off the rest. By the time I was done, I was nearly as smooth as the day I was born… and all without any pain, irritation or nicks. (The manual says you can use shaving cream. I tried it both with and without, but I’m still not sure which is best. My gut feeling is that cream would help when stubble grows back or if I shaved out of the shower.)
All in all, a great product that actually works as advertised, with a comfortable design that also looks great. I prefer the two headed system because it seems to make sense to trim dry and shave wet.
** Update, almost a year later **
BodyGroom still working well, except that the foil needed replaced. I wasn’t sure what to buy since I lost the instructions… the package for the BG2000 replacement foil available on amazon says “fits BodyGroom range BG2020 to BG2029.” Still, the Philips Norelco website says the BG2000 replacement is the right one for the BG2030.
I bought it and works fine. I was pleasantly surprised that it was a complete replacement for the foil, trimmers and blades. My old shaver is like new again.

I hate most of my body hair and like to trim it off. Looking at the reviews for this device prompted me to purchase one. Well, call it just me, but compared to my WAHL electric trimmer and a decent razor blade for finishing the cut, the BG2030 is:
1. Very slow with little power.
2. Too small a cutting area.
3. Feels and works more like a toy.
4. The manual warns NOT to use on facial hair. Why?
I appreciate my purchases and always take good care of them. A couple of weeks ago, I went to attach the shaving head, but it was loose on the body. Apparently, a plastic clip on the body that attaches to the shaver broke. Maybe I was just unlucky with this purchase. I returned the unit for a refund.
A final note, if you’re in a remote area without any electricity and need to shave or trim your body hair, and are willing to take some time in doing so, then this product might fit your needs. As for me, I have electricity and my WAHL and razor blade provide superior results.
